Present Simple Tense
The present simple tense is one of the most basic tenses in English. It is used to describe habits, general truths, and repeated actions.
Formation
Subject + base verb (+ s/es for third person singular)
I play tennis. She plays tennis. We play tennis. They play tennis.
When to Use
- Facts and general truths: The sun rises in the east.
- Habits and routines: I brush my teeth every morning.
- Scheduled events: The train leaves at 6 PM.
- Feelings and opinions: I like chocolate.
Common Mistakes
Forgetting the -s ending for third person singular (he, she, it) is the most common error. Remember: She works hard, not she work hard.
